When Mommy was a little girl.

Here we are in 2022, at the start of colourful March dedicated to recognizing the important roles women have played throughout our lives. And I would like to celebrate this women’s day with the stories of that remarkable woman in our life who has always been gentle and caring towards us and has fought tooth and nail over the years so that we become the best humans – Yes, you guessed it correctly, I am talking of Mothers.

Have you imagined your Mommy as a 'little girl?’ Have you ever wondered what your Mommy was as a 'little girl?’

A tribute to the modern-day classic 'When Daddy Was a Little Boy' by famous Russian Poet & Author Alexander Raskin When Mommy was a little girl is an anthology of fifteen beautiful childhood stories by amazing moms from across the country when they were little girls.

It is a collection of stories filled with love, mischief, fights and fun. Not only that, but we also get to learn about different cultures. Each story starts with beautiful illustrations.

The stories are not fantasy or fairy stories - they are about Mommy's day-to-day life - like when they were growing up and committing new mistakes each day. My personal favourite was How Mommy Saw a Ghost by Madhumita Mandal. Reading it made me awestruck. It is about courage and facing our inner demons. It shows how fear exists in our minds. Sometimes our imagination overrides reality but there is always a way to overcome such fear. The story ends with Little Mommy overcoming her fear of the dark. We need more such fresh perspectives, more such stories that deal with emotion, fear, and overcoming difficulties. I also liked stories- How Mommy was Saved by a Narrow Squeak, How Mommy Got a Pet & How Mommy Taught Her Baby Brother.

I personally believe that though fairytales are entertainers and increase imaginativeness where the prince comes and saves the princess, we need to prepare today’s children how to be their knight in shining armour and face their real-life challenges head-on and this book is just the right choice for it.

I am totally in love with this book, and I credit the authors, illustrators and editors who have done a commendable job in transforming ordinary tales into a book of life lessons. This book is written lucidly that I am sure kids would have no difficulty reading and would instantly fall in love with it, just like the kid in me😊

Love,

A
