“The world is turntable that never stops spinning; as humans we merely choose the tracks we want to sit out and the ones that inspire us to dance.”

Charming, sweet and delicious with a pinch of cinnamon dust. These are the exact words that can completely describe how I felt throughout the book.
The book entails the story of Emoni Santiago, senior at a Charter School in Philly and also, a
TEEN MOM!
Emoni is not like any other teenager. She has got the responsibility she cannot ignore. This book feels like her diary in which she captures her whole world.
“Some days my feelings are like this, like a pot full of water with the fire on high…”
But her true passion has always been cooking. She has this gift, this magic. She has a talent and everyone can taste it. While she has always dreamt of manifesting her talent and attending a culinary school but being a teen mom has changed everything.
At times she feels exhausted and vulnerable. But the support of her Babygirl, ‘Buela and her bestfriend Gelly holds her up which makes my heart swell.
“Where we come from leaves its fingerprints all over us, and if you know how to read the signs of a place, you know a little bit more who someone is.”
This isn’t a typical book about teen pregnancy, it’s about what happens after that. It’s about culture, family and roots. All I have in my mind by the end of this book is that how incredibly hungry it makes me and how I try hard to not cry each time I eat food.
Overall it’s a unique and heart-warming story that puts the voice of women into light. It was a delicious treat with the right pinch of cinnamon dust (always).
Lots of love,
